The Slenderman Musical Has Been Remixed And Is Out Now!

06 Dec

Just in time for Christmas! Nothing gets you in the spirit of Xmas like a romping tale of Slender shenanigans. Slenderman, ghosts, secret holy orders, sub-realities, monasteries on the outside of the world where everyone slowly descends into madness, some quality time with mother, and of course the infamous incident that takes place in Act 3 which makes this hands down the most divisive album of my career.

Of course, really, this is a story about isolation and connection, despite the cacophony of surreal and absurd horror tropes that march through this piece.

There has been a recent surge of interest in this tale, and despite all the hubbub about the Act 3 incident, the real issue i have is with its poor mixing. It’s driven me crazy all this time, and so now, in the holiday spirit, i have gone back and remixed it so it sounds far more listenable. There is a plot point near the end that i do realize is stupid and was a poor choice, and which i have changed. (I am prepared to defend why i changed this and why i didn’t change any of the other controversial bits.)

Act 1 is one of the best single acts i have ever made and act 3… is the literal definition of love it or hate it. Sounding a bit better than before, ladies and gentlemen, The Slenderman Musical! (Also, a purchase of this album gets you a Christmas Eve visit from SlenderSanta!)

    From what I’ve gathered *SPOILERS*

The plot difference is that instead of Timothy killing the Slenderman, he’s left wandering the Earth instead. I’m not sure why this plot point was an issue?

Oh, that was always a fun moment! Though, it did always raise the question to me of “Where was the gun the whole time”… though then I figured maybe when they returned to Earth they just landed near Timothy’s truck or something, and the gun was just sitting in it still.

I feel killing the slenderman was a mistake. The world is more fun and interesting if he’s till around. If the slenderman ever comes for you, you’re probably dead, unLESS… unless before he kills you you can manage to grab his uncircumcised member and give him a handjob. Then you can survive.

Neat! I’ll have to give it a listen soon-ish. Just actually replayed this album… it’s a fun one. I love when “On the Run Again” comes on while I’m driving and whatever passenger I have gets all freaked out. 😛 And I think that the RGC’s outro to “The Time At Last” is possibly the finest moment of any song you have released. So many good parts in this one all around though… the use of sound effects is especially stunning in a way that I’ve not heard in your other releases, like when Timothy opens the door into the bar.

Honestly, the only plot issue I really have with this one is that I feel like Zoe’s backstory is introduced a bit too late, which makes her having the big outro song not “fit” as well as it perhaps could, but it doesn’t look like it’s what this remix touches on… curious to see what’s been changed. The only places where the actual mix sounded off to me was a little bit of the volume in “Possession” and the scream just before “that part” of “The Hunt”, so I’m interested to see what all tweaks I pick up on.

Out of curiosity… any possibility of having the original version also be available, perhaps as a bonus if you buy it from Bandcamp? I’m personally a fan of “The Abbey 1” being present, so I figured it may be neat if it was still available to new listeners even if it isn’t in the main download. The same goes for whatever plot change you’ve made here, and “The Fall of Avalon” from Fairy Tales for Homeless Faeries. Actually… now that I think about it… might it be time to think about doing a rarities/bonus tracks album? Could also pull in things like the original demos for Dolls of New Albion Act 3 and some of the other things you’ve released that are only on Soundcloud/YouTube. It would give those extras a centralized place for fans to find them and download them in a high-quality format (as opposed to YouTube rips which are… decidedly not high quality downloads).

Oh man I’d pay a lot for a HQ version of the demo track from the Baltic Opera…

And I’m now panicking because I can’t find it on YouTube D:

Oh, phew, found it. Would still pay money for it, and I’m not even a quality snob!

Yeah, all five (ish) of those demos could go in a Rarities mix as well. Even if the album does eventually get finished and have a full release, it can be cool to go back and look at the demos, especially if they’re fairly different sounding like I gather these might be.

I actually want to do that album next. If i cant go the full live band route, i can at least get a couple musicians for guitar and accordian, and get local singers.

Also, the version on iTunes is the old version and getting that off and a new one on is such a monumental pain in the ass i’m not sure if i’m going to do it.I don’t personally have the old versions anymore since once i decide to change and replace a track i go all in.

Actually, if you download on iTunes, it’s the original versions of things, I belive…
I can’t wait to listen and compare the two
Just… AAAAAAAAAAA – I’m so freaking pumped – Slenderman is one of my favorites ><

Alright, hypothesis time: You retconned the slenderman’s death because in The Lost Hollows, the war of the AI’s is against mother, and you figured you still need the slenderman for that. I think otherwise there would be no point in changing what I though was one of the coolest little bits of the musical.

Anyways, even with the change, this is still my favourite musical you have put out so far, so I love that it got some slightly better mixing.

Huh, I just assumed that there were other slendermen. If humanity is “one” of Mother’s children, and so is Slendy, I don’t see why there can’t be others.
