And It’s Gettin’ Near Atompunk Opera Time

17 Jun
The New Albion Guide To Analogue Consciousness, An Atompunk Opera

The full album cover by Stefan Paris

I am buying my ticket for London. I am heading there on Monday, will be there for a week (don’t need a week but the flights are only on MonWedFri, and i NEED WedFri, so frackin’ Mon to Mon it is) then it’s back home and mix the goodies for alllll you sweet little cherubs.

As i’ve said upteen times, mid July the 1st Act will come out. All 4 Acts will be released one week apart for 4 weeks (and they’ll be like $2.50). I HIGHLY recommend listening to it episodically. Once all 4 Acts have been released then the full album will be released. The 4 seperate acts will feature cover art by Sarah DeBuck and the full album proper will feature cover art by the great Stefan Paris.

The New Albion Guide To Analogue Consciousness, An Atompunk Opera

The first of the four Act covers by Sarah De Buck.

Once THAT is done we move on to the box set. Naturally this won’t concern most of you as many will already own the 3 albums. But for those who have only bought 1 and are considering the next 2 or those who want to be completists, here’s what i’m thinking for the box set:

Obviously it’ll have the complete trilogy.

It will have in either epub or mobi format a book of New Albion stories, all the short stories in the New Albion universe like The Death of Simon The Albetross and all the others.

it’ll be bundled with New Albion 7 (which is missing from the operas proper). Maybe something else artwise.

But i MAY, i’m really, really considering doing one more song cycle. Basically an Act length extra. See, in the Atompunk Opera, there’s a character who is named but doesn’t actually have a part. (There was NO WAY. Do you how hard it was to keep this thing in the 100 minute zone? I WANTED 90 minutes, but there was NO WAY.) This character is only mentioned a couple times (Amber) but when you get thinking about it, is quite important and VERY interesting. I could do a song cycle featuring her at a different point in time than when the opera takes place. One last dance with New Albion. And i would include it for the box set only.

I would also print some actual, real CDs. Maybe for the box set?  Like, if the “box set” was actually a physical package. Does anybody care? If i made them would you buy them? Or would i be wasting my time?

Is there anything else you’d like to see included?

So we’re about a month away (less) from atompunk blast off time. Come with me one last time to a land of dead things and broken love stories. I will make it worth your while.

I am very excitied, and can’t wait to hear the new Opera!

My thoughts on the box set:
    It’s a wonderful idea!
I only listen to music digitally, but I’d just love to have those CDs stored in my shelf for everyone to see.
Maybe you could pack some small extras in the set, like a Map of New Albion, a small sketch of Annabel’s secret formula or something like that.
You could even coordinate this with Clockwork Hart Productions and pack a backing-perk in the box set, like the Voodoopunk Armband or the family tree.

Keep up the brilliant work, I love it. We love it.

I would love to be able to buy the CDs, I only listen to CD or radio in the car and I’d love to have a proper New Albion CD with the artwork and everything instead of having a generic CD with the music burned onto it.

Shut up and take my money! If you put ’em in some boxy construct throw in a poster. Just fold it in quarters and slide it in there. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just something to stick on the wall. Worked for Flight of the Concords, and that’s like the only thing hanging on my wall right now.

I’d be very interested but I do have some concerns. Paying a large amount for something I’ve already bought makes me a little uncomfortable, unless there was a large amount of additional content. From what you’ve described, I’m certainly interested, as the cost of the Operas aren’t huge to begin with.
At the very least, if you were to put something like this out, it would become a long term plan of mine to get hold of a copy. Also, I’ve been meaning to burn some CDs to put in my car, so this would certainly remove that problem. I’ll be following this with great interest!

I’m now very much going in favor of a boxed set. However, let me be clear: i would charge as little as possible. I would probably set up a preorder system since i couldn’t possibly afford to print a bunch ahead of time. I would tell you what the cost would be based on what i’m offering and how much it costs to make it (physical disk, poster, one strange nick nack, etc). The profit on it would be small on my end as it would be made knowing the avergae person buying it has already shelled out for the series and is a fan vs. a casual buyer. My interest therefore wouldn’t be to squeeze you out of more cash, but to offer you something actually desired, like a physical copy, some extra perks and of course an extra Act not found anywhere else as well as some of the unused tracks that were never used, like the original Voodoopunk song, the original Byron Rallies (back when he was far right instead of far left) etc.

I will not really get around to this until after the Atompunk is released and settled as it’s gonna be a hell of a ride just getting there, but i will do this and i i will make it awesome and i will be as gentle as i can possibly be on the price without of course actually losing money.

Very much in favor of the box set, and I am beyond excited to see what comes of everything. I’ve been preaching the gospel of New Albion (so to speak) to my friends since I first discovered it a few months ago, and having physical copies of things would make it easier to expose them to more of this awesome series.
