Don’t ask why, just trust me, this is important to the bit i’m currently working on.
So, old 60s and 70s sci fi shows. Most are almost impossibly cheesy looking back although some do have some really inventive ideas that still hold up. I’ve seen a fair share in reruns as a kid, although i won’t pretend to be connoisseur by any means. These are not necessarily the best shows, just my personal favorite music intros.
10. The Prisoner
I love this so much i could have listed it near the top. But who says these numbers mean anything and it’s a great way to get started. I know some folks who prefer the Secret Agent Man theme, but i have an attachment to this series. Plus the intro is a mini epic story.
9. Wonder Woman
Come on people, this thing is discolicious. “In your satin tights, fighting for your rights, and the ol’ red, white and blue”.
Say what you will, this song rocks.
7. Doctor Who
Iconic. And of course it’s still running and as popular as ever. But here’s the thing, the original theme is very, very daring. It doesn’t try to spiff things up, it’s really straight up electronics and the story behind how they got these sounds… just tape loops and so forth… Respect.
6. Star Trek
Yeah it’s obvious, but you HAVE to include it. It’s Star Trek. In fact, hearing jsut the first two notes is all that’s needed to know what song it is and conjur up images and feelings.
5. Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
I’m a particular fan of the radio show and this music at the intro makes me happy every time.
4. I know, this should probably be in the first two. Let’s pretend order doesn’t matter. Iconic. Beyond iconic. It’s not even a SONG! It’s just 3 notes. And yet in 3 notes you know exactly what this is and what it means.
3. Star Blazers
Dude.. just… don’t even question this. This show is holy to my childhood.
2. The Batman show theme.
It’s its own meme for heaven’s sake. It’s beyond iconic. It’s like a kleenex. A kleenex is not the name of a piece of tissue paper, it has beCOME and IS the tissue paper.
1. Buck Rogers.
Omg, i LOOOOOOOVE this theme. I just…. i just so. It got to me when i was kid and i never forgot it. It STILL makes me uncannily happy.
