Atompunk Opera Installments

atompunk

There’s something i’ve been debating that i wanted to run by you.

I’ve been considering releasing the Atompunk opera in 4 installments. Either every month for 4 months or every two weeks or something like that.

The idea is that it’s a story, right? And it would be released like a TV series, a mini series. It might make it more interesting and exciting and give time for everybody to be familiar with each Act rather than have to wade through the entire thing in one go. If you wanted to do it in one go, naturally, after the entire thing has been released in parts, i’ll do a final, full release, which would be the big main release on itunes and amazon and all those places outside of bandcamp. If you’ve already bought the installments, you’re fine, you can forgoe the all-at-once release.

It seems like an interesting and different way to go about putting out an album opera. Being an opera like the steampunk opera and the dielselpunk opera, it isn’t simply an album of music, the story is key and since the story is written in chapters/acts, it would work story wise. Furthermore, each Act ideally will have a certain unique musical flow based on which generation and location it take place, so each act also functions as it’s own music arc as well as story arc.

Does this make sense? The whole point of doing it would be to make it more fun to experience. Financially there’d be no difference in price. Each act would be $2.50, so you’d pay the same as simply buying the full album

The when i can’t say. Theoretically i could begin writing the music any time, but i’ve been slowly making a very odd fairy album, which i think i’ll spend another month on before releasing. I need to finish sound and music for a video game i’ve been working on for several months and which will last another 2 months (at least). Basically after the fairy album is done (which i’ll talk more about at a later date) i might actually start Act 1 of the AO.

So there’s that. I haven’t really decided about this installment plan yet, but i’m pretty heavily leaning towards it. There’s certain series i just look so forward to every week and i think it might be fun to put out the Atompunk Opera that way.

I got this idea thinking that after i finish the New Albion trilogy, the next operalike work (because i will continue to make musicals) could be installment oriented, and then it occurred to me i could try it out with the AO. So let’s see. Any thoughts? Yea? Nay?

This sounds like a really cool way of doing it. I know I’m going to be buying this thing either way it’s put out, but the different installments does sound like a good way to make it more like a series. : )

I’m buying either way, but this installment plan sounds so exciting! Like a Doctor Who Serial~ *u* Kept on tenterhooks and panicking while trying to figure what happens next and screaming at friends about what already happened. *u* Sounds wonderful~

The idea of splitting it in 4 separately released parts seems like something you could do a lot of interesting things with, particularly if the plot has time travel…
